ABOUT
Since 2006, Mozambique has implemented reforms in vocational education, including the introduction of competency-based curricula and the establishment of regulatory and institutional frameworks. Despite this progress, the system continues to face important limitations, particularly in terms of quality, resources, and effective connection with the labour market. There is a recognised need to strengthen teacher training, promote inclusive and gender-responsive approaches, and integrate digital and innovative pedagogies. Addressing these gaps is essential to ensure that vocational education can respond to current economic and social challenges.
DECENT?
The DECENT project addresses key challenges in vocational education and training (VET) in Mozambique, particularly in relation to teacher capacity, inclusion, and alignment with labour market needs. The project is aligned with national priorities for education and training, as well as with international frameworks such as the Sustainable Development Goals and the African Union Agenda 2063. It also reflects European Union priorities related to inclusion, digital transformation, and quality education.
By strengthening teacher competencies and supporting continuous professional development, DECENT contributes to improving the quality and relevance of vocational education and training. It promotes a more inclusive and responsive system, better equipped to support employability and sustainable development. The project also fosters stronger links between education and the private sector, encouraging cooperation and the adoption of practices that respond to evolving labour market demands.
